Dusty Miller
3.5" DUSTY MILLER
Senecio cineraria
USDA Zones 8-10
Dusty Miller is grown for its beautiful silver laced foliage. While it does bloom small yellow flowers in mid-summer, its mostly planted for its showy foliage. Dusty Miller should be planted in full sun to stay compact. While it will survive in the shade it may become leggy & produce fewer hairs that give it the beautiful silver hairs it's known for. Surprinsingly, Dusty Miller can survive winter months in zones codler than it is hardy in. Gardeners report it coming back in zones 5 & even 4 when planted in ground. Grown year round, this is the perfect addition to any in ground garden or container arrangement. The fuzzy hairs that give the plant it's beautiful shine also helps the plant withstand periods of drought. Once established, only occasional water is needed. When planted in-ground, the additon of a layer of mulch will help it become even less dependant on supplemental irrigation. 1" of water per week is perfect for a healthy DM.
During cold weather months we love planting Dusty Miller with other frosty foliage plants, 'Super Red 80' cabbage for its blue-purple leaves, blue Juncus, Heuchera, & with any blue/purple shade viola or pansy.
You will receive a 3.5" size plant bare root without a pot.
