This grass like plant is native to the western US, found primarily along coastal & coastal mountain, in marshes & other wet areas. It can also be tolerant of summer drought & garden conditions. This perennial herb has skinny tall green, gray, blue stems grown in a clumping manner. It holds many flowers that fluster from the side of the stem, rather than at it's tip. The fruit is spherical red or brown in a capsule like shape that fill & bulge from the dried flower remnants when it matures.
It is popular in formal gardens, water gardens, container arrangements, & makes for a beautiful center piece with it's height & striking appearance as it can grow up to 3 feet tall & wide. It attracts butterflies & moths making it perfect for an attractant garden. It tolerates a variety of soils & is deer resistant.
