Kale 'Nagoya Red'
1 GALLON ORNAMENTAL 'NAGOYA RED' KALE
Brassica oleracea Nagoya 'Red'
USDA Zones 7-11
The Nagoya Red Ornamental Kale is has stunning deep rose & teal foliage with frilling edges arranged like a rose. Ornamental Kale is a great addition to your fall & winter line up. The cooler the months get, the more vibrant the colors stand out. Unfortunately, while these Ornamental Kales are absolutely edible, it is not suggested as their flavor is lacking (for better words).
*If anyone knows of any good recipes that incorporate Ornamental Kales send 'em down!
The Nagoya series does phenomenally planted in containers, as well as in the ground.
When it comes to in-ground landscaping, we at Horticult cannot emphasize how awesome they look in mass plantings, especially when you incorporate both the Red & White. The work well in border gardens, containers, edging areas, & (I cant emphasize enough) mass plantings.
Before planting kale, remove the scruffy bottom leaves. Plant the kale in the ground so the crown of leaves is flush with the soil surface. Plant in an area that receives plenty of full sun & circulation. You will start to see drastic changes in their color after the first frost & as the colors continue to deepen & brighten up simultaneously you'll realize why these Ornamental Kales are sought out for their drastic look. In temperate areas they can retain their color all the way to Spring.
ATTRACT BUTTERFLIES!
Nagoya's thrive in full sun & moist, well drained soil.
You will receive a 1 gallon size plant bare root without a pot.
