Kale 'Nagoya White'
1 GALLON ORNAMENTAL KALE 'NAGOYA WHITE'
Brassica oleracea; Flowering Kale
USDA Zones 7-11
This brilliantly colored kale gets more attractive as it matures. The foliage hues intensify as the temperature drops below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. This flowering kale grows to be 6-12" in height with a 12-16" width & 12-14" spread. The Formerly Emperor series that this variety is in is characterized for it's tight, compact heads of semi-waved -- almost frilly -- leaves. In temperate areas, they can retain their color all the way to Spring.
Just as with Ornamental Cabbage, Kale isn't very tasty or tender, so eating this particular veggie isn't advised (unless you find an awesome recipe & then send it this way!)
'Nagoya White' thrives in containers, as well as in-ground gardens.
When planting outside in the ground, first remove the scruffy bottom leaves. Plant the kale so that the crown of leaves is flush with the soil surface. Feel free to let them flourish in ground beds & mass plantings as well. Some of the pictures posted in this listing show just how incredible large groups are planted there
Kale thrives on slopes, doorsteps, desks, & patios.
Plant in full sun with plenty of circulation. After the first frost is when their color really shines. it's amazing watching how brilliant the shades really come out.
When it comes to watering, they enjoy moist (but not waterlogged) soil.
They like to be fed, so FERTILIZE for optimum growth & color.
Check out the other color we have availalbe -- 'Nagoya Red'!
