PACKAGING & SHIPPING

SHIPPING COST

We are excited to announce we have started using Ship Station to ship our plants! With this installment the cost of shipping has drastically decreased. Unfortunately, the new shipping cost is hard for our website to calculate. Another difficult factor for our site to calculate is the number of boxes your order may need. With that being said, we will ALWAYS REFUND ANY SHIPPING OVERAGE! We thank you for your patience with this matter.

SHIPPING POLICY

We want all of our customers to be happy with every plant they order! If there is an issue during shipping, even if the circumstances are beyond our control, please message us using the chat feature on the site or email us & we will do our best to rectify the situation. We thank you for understanding that shipping live plants can be extremely difficult with a number of factors that can affect the health & condition of your plant upon arrival. With that being said, we will do everything we can to solve any complication that may arise.

WHEN WILL MY ORDER ARRIVE?

We ship plants Monday - Wednesday of every week to ensure your plants do not remain in their box for too long. We strive to get orders out as soon as possible, but we will admit if it is busy it could take us an extra day or 2. We guarantee you will receive your order within 5-7 days of purchase AT THE LATEST. Please understand there are extenuating circumstances that could lead to a later arrival date, such as postal holidays or weather conditions, but we will always contact you if this is the case.

The day your order is shipped depends on when you place your order. The following examples are under ideal conditions. Ideally, if your order is placed before 11AM on a shipping day it will be packed up & shipped out that same day. If your order is placed after 11AM, it is guaranteed to be shipped the next shipping day. For example, if you place your order on a Monday before 11AM your plant will be shipped that same day. If you place your order after 11AM on Wednesday it will not be shipped until the next freight day, which would be the upcoming Monday.

Every order is shipped using Priority 1-3 Day Shipping. The arrival date will depend where in the country you are. East Coast orders usually make it in 1-2 days after being shipped. Orders to the West Coast, specifically California, can take 3 days.

We will make sure to post the tracking information for your order.

CAN I SCHEDULE, HOLD, OR EXPEDITE MY SHIPPING TIME?

You may schedule or hold your order by indicating your preferred shipping date in the area allowed for comments at purchase. An order can be held for up to 3 weeks, depending on the plant.

To ensure your plant can be held for this period of time we suggest contacting us before hand through the chat feature of this site or through email.

WHAT ABOUT FAILED DELIVERIES, RETURNED PACKAGES, OR POST OFFICE HOLDS?

Although all of these factors are beyond our control we understand they are beyond your control as well! We will do everything we can to rectify situations such as these. Simply contact us through the chat feature of the site or through our email.

PACKING YOUR PLANTS

Shipping live plants around the country can be a difficult task. Whether it be to a near by state, or across the nation, we make sure to give every order some tender loving care ♡

PACKING PROCESS

  • We begin the packing process by inspecting each plant for blemishes, pests, & diseases. We investigate the soil for fungus & pests, as well as the roots to make sure they are healthy & free of rot.

  • Once the plant, its soil, & roots have ALL passed inspection we gently remove excess soil from the roots. Eliminating the extra dirt keeps the shipping cost of your order relatively low by shedding weight. We will leave enough soil around the roots to ensure the plant remains healthy on its journey.

  • Next, we take the root ball & wrap it in a lightly damp paper towel. The level of moisture of the towel will depend on the plant, the season & temperature, & the length of the journey. For example, for a desert succulent we will make sure the towel is only damp enough to keep the roots from drying out. For a plant that needs regular watering we will increase the towel's moisture content. We will take into account the season as well -- during the winter some plants require less water. During the hottest weeks of the summer temperatures inside the box may become so hot the humidity will rise. We will alter moisture levels to accommodate these factors.

  • We then wrap the root ball & towel in plastic wrap to keep the moisture from escaping.

  • The entire plant is wrapped in news print paper to keep the foliage from receiving any damage.

  • If the plant is delicate, such as a Pilea microphylla variegata, we will wrap it in multiple sheets of paper or a thick card stock-like material to give the wrap more structure.

  • Now it is time for boxing! The size of the box for your order is dependent on how many plants you have ordered, the size of the plant(s), & how fragile your plant is. The more fragile, the more padding. We will always ship multiple plants in the same box to consolidate shipping costs if able. Once the size is selected & your box is created we add paper to pad & insulate the box. Your plant is placed inside & taped down to ensure stability. More padding & insulation is added. Finally, the box is sealed!

We take pride in our process & are confident your plant will arrive healthy & without damage.

With that being said, we understand & we thank you for understanding that there are MANY factors that can lead to a plant arriving in an unsatisfactory condition.

If this happens -- even if the circumstances are beyond our control -- please do not hesitate to contact us & let us know! We want all of our customers to be happy with every plant they receive from Horticult!

Please message us through the chat feature on this site or email us (email is listed below) with a description of your concerns, as well as a picture of the plant. We will do what we can to rectify any situation!

HEAT PACKS

During the winter months the temperature can drop to a degree that will harm many plants in our shop. If you are ordering a tropical plant, or any that are not cold hardy, during the winter months it is important that you order a heat pack along with your plants.

We use UNI-HEAT Multi Purpose Jumbo Shipping Warmers. These heat packs will last 72+ hours, ensuring your plant stays warm & cozy on its journey.

If you order a heat pack we will guarantee your plant will arrive in a healthy & pristine condition. If it does not, please contact us & we will send another free of charge.

If you fail to order one of the shipping warmers we can not ensure your plant will be in good shape upon arrival & will not replace it.

If you place your order & forget to add a heat pack you may order another & we will refund any shipping overage OR simply contact us & we will create an order for a heat pack with free shipping.
