Creeping Golden Thyme

Creeping Golden Thyme

Thymus citriodoris ‘Golden Dwarf’

USDA Zones 4-9

This low growing hardy perennial is an easy plant to take care of! It’s an evergreen, tiny creeping thyme variety that rarely gets over 3” tall. It appears in low, dense mats which sprawl randomly & quickly act as a ground cover.

Just like other thyme varieties, creeping thyme is edible. It has a flavor & aRoma akin to mint when crushed for tea or tinctures.

To harvest your creeping thyme, remove the leaves from the stems or or dry by snipping from the plant & hanging upside down in a dark, well aerated area. Harvest in the morning, when it’s essential oils are at their peak.

It is also DEER RESISTANT! It’s also capable of withstanding trampling, so if planting a garden that is frequented by children, this is a great edible ground cover! It also attracts bees & is a great addition to a honey bee garden!

Planting thyme is relatively easy because of it’s compatibility to a variety of soils & light exposures. It prefers well drained soils, but it will grow quite well in less desirable mediums & thrives in sun to light shade environments.

Soil should be moist, but not wet as it is susceptible to root rot. The soil PH should be neutral to slightly alkaline.

Creeping thyme can be propagated through stem cuttings or divisions. Cuttings should be taken in early summer.

When planting in the ground, spread 8-12” apart to account for its spreading habit. Works well in containers, raised gardens, & in-ground gardens.
